This installation guide is intended to be used to assist you during the installation of your
Morimoto XB LED Low Profile Tail Lights.
Tools Needed:
- Panel removal tool (Plastic preferred)
- T40 Torx bit
- 10 mm socket
- Phillips head screw driver
Step 1
Removal of the factory tail light:
- Remove the square cover panel from the top of the plastic cover on the inside of the Jeep. This will be directly inside the rear hatch over the tail light area.
- Use the T40 Torx from your Jeep tool kit or a 10 mm socket to remove the screw.
- Set the screw to the side, we will need this for reinstallation.
- Grab the tail light housing and pull to remove.
- Release the red locking tab on the tail light connector and depress the tab to disconnect.
- Repeat the same process for the other tail light.
- Set the tail light on a flat work place for the next steps.
Step 2
Transferring factory parts to the Morimoto tail lights.
If your Jeep is equipped with Factory Halogen's skip to Step 3.
Please follow the instructions below if your Jeep is equipped with Factory LED's with integrated blind spot radar:
- Using a #2 phillips head screw driver, remove the three screws that secure the tail light mounting bracket.
- Remove the other clip and completely remove the bracket and set to the side.
- Remove the two phillips head screws that secure the radar cover
- Lift the radar and radar bracket out of the tail light and set it to the side.
- Pry outwards on the four plastic tabs that secure the radar to the bracket and remove the radar.
- Release the red locking tab, depress the tab to release the connector to the radar.
- Place your new Morimoto tail lights on the work place.
- Using a #2 phillips head screw driver, remove the three screws that secure the tail light mounting bracket.
- Remove the three phillips head screws securing the radar bracket to the tail light housing.
- Pass the radar wiring through the radar bracket and plug the harness into the radar. Press the red locking tab in to secure.
- Clip the radar into the radar bracket, making sure that all four plastic tabs are locked in around the radar.
- Place the radar and radar bracket into the tail light and secure with the three phillips head screws.
- Place the mounting bracket back onto the tail light and secure with the three phillips head screws.
- Repeat the steps for the other tail light.
Step 3
Installation of your Morimoto tail lights:
- If your Jeep was equipped with Factory Halogen tail lights:
- Attach one of the provided resistors to the metal surface within the tail light cavity.
- Connect the factory tail light harness to the new tail light connectors, press in the red locking tab to secure
- Connect the resistor to the tail lights harness for Factory Halogen Jeeps
- Insert the tail light housing into the tail light cavity.
- Secure with the mounting screw from inside the Jeep.
- This mounting screw only needs to be hand tight, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.
- Replace the panel cover over the mounting screw.
- Repeat the process for the other tail light.
Step 4
Test the functionality:
- Test the functions:
- Running light
- Turn signal
- Reverse light
- Tail lights on
