This installation guide is intended to be used to assist you during the installation of your Kicker 8 Speaker Jeep JK Plug and Play Bundle from Bantam Overland.
Installation Video
Tools Needed:
- 9/32 inch socket (or 7mm socket)
- 3/8 inch socket (or 10mm socket)
- Ratchet wrench (Manual or powered)
- Socket extension
- Panel removal tool (Plastic preferred)
- Side cutter
- Zip Ties
- Flash light or work light
Step 1
Removal of dash tweeters:
- Remove the dash speaker grilles using a panel removal tool by prying up on the grille.
- Remove the two bolts securing the factory speaker using a 9/32 inch (or 7mm) socket.
- Disconnect the speaker connector from factory speaker.
Step 2
Installation of dash tweeters:
Connect the tweeter harness (Bag labeled Dash) with inline crossover to the speaker:
- Connect the small male and female spade connectors.
- Make sure that the rubber insulators are covering the speaker connections.
Install speaker into mounting bracket:
- Insert the speaker and wiring harness though the larger mounting plate
- Place the top plate over the tweeter, making sure not to damage the speaker surround.
- Connect the wiring harness to the factory tweeter speaker harness
- Secure any loose wires with a zip tie, if needed.
- Secure the speaker mounting ring with speaker into the dash opening and secure using the two factory bolts.
- Replace speaker grille.
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for other dash speaker.
Step 3
Removing the driver side knee pod:
- Start by removing the lower dash panel located under and around the steering wheel. This panel is held in with pressure clips and can be removed with your hands by pulling back towards you on the top of the panel. The panel can than be lifted out of the way to reveal two screws. These can be removed with a 9/32 inch (or 7mm) socket. Place in the cup holder for safe keeping.
- Remove the side panel, located on the outside of the dash near the door opening. This panel can be removed with a panel removal tool by gently prying out.
- Remove the door retention strap from the holder located inside the drivers kick panel. This will give you better access to the knee pod.
- Remove the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screws that hold in the side of the knee pod. These are located on the outside of the pod near the door.
- Remove the 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screw from the bottom left corner of the dash that holds in the bottom of the dash.
- Remove the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts holding in the lower dash to the lower dash support.
- Remove the two 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolts holding in the metal dash support bracket located under the steering column.
- Remove the last bolt holding in the speaker pod. This 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolts is located under the dash in the lower dash support to the left of the steering column.
- Disconnect the factory speaker wire connection from speaker pod by depressing the tab. The tab is facing the firewall.
- Gently pull back on the left side of the dash with one hand and remove the entire speaker pod. We recommend grabbing the dash with your right hand and the speaker pod with your left. Pull the top of the speaker pod down, rotate and remove through the side of the dash nearest the door opening.
Step 4
Removing the factory speaker from knee pod:
- Remove the three phillips head screws from the speaker.
- Remove speaker and disconnect the factory wiring harness from the back of the speaker.
Step 5
Installing the driver side knee pod speaker into pod:
- Orient the Bantam Overland 6.5 inch speaker mounting ring so that the larger of the three tabs is located at the top.
- Secure the speaker mounting ring to the pod using the factory hardware.
- Connect provided speaker harness adapter to speaker. The adapter has an 1/8th and 1/4 inch spade connector that will connect directly to your speaker.
- Connect the provided adapter to the factory wiring located inside of the speaker pod.
- Place the speaker assembly into the factory speaker pod.
- Align the speaker so that it matches with the pre-drilled holes in the mounting bracket.
- Using 4 of the provided black phillips head screws, install 6.5 inch speaker into Bantam Overland 6.5 inch speaker mounting ring.
Step 6
Installing the speaker pod back into the dash:
- Gently pull back on the dash and work speaker pod back into place. Be sure not to damage the front of the speaker.
- Align the speaker pod assembly with the two bolts that secure the left side of the pod. Replace the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts, being sure to leave them loose until all bolts are in place.
- Replace the 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolt that secures the bottom of the speaker pod. You may need to adjust the pod in order to get the holes to line up.
- Once these three bolts are started, you can tighten all 3 being sure not to over tighten.
- Re-connect the factory speaker wire harness to the back of the speaker pod.
- Replace the metal dash support and secure with two 3/8 inch (or 10mm) bolts.
- Replace the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts holding in the lower dash to the lower dash support.
- Replace the 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screw from the bottom left corner of the dash that holds in the bottom of the dash.
- Replace the side panel located near the door opening.
- Replace the lower dash panel that is under and around the steering column.
- Replace the door retention strap onto the holder. If you unplugged the harness for your door, be sure to reconnect it at this time!
Step 7
Removing the passenger side knee pod:
- Remove the side panel near the door opening.
- Remove the glove box by opening, pressing in the side of the glove box and pivoting down and out.
- Remove the door retention strap from the holder.
- Remove the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screws that hold in the side of the knee pod. These are located on the outside of the pod near the door.
- Remove the 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screw from the bottom right corner of the dash that holds in the bottom of the dash.
- Remove the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts holding in the lower dash to the lower dash support (For glovebox).
- Remove the last bolt holding in the speaker pod. This 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolts is located under the dash in the lower dash support to the left of the speaker pod.
- Disconnect the factory speaker wire connection from speaker pod by depressing the tab. The tab is facing the firewall.
- Gently pull back on the right side of the dash with one hand and remove the entire speaker pod. We recommend grabbing the dash with your right hand and the speaker pod with your left. Pull the top of the speaker pod down, rotate and remove through the glove box opening.
Step 8
Removing the factory speaker from knee pod:
- Remove the three phillips head screws from the speaker.
- Remove speaker and disconnect the factory wiring harness from the back of the speaker.
Step 9
Installing the passenger side knee pod speaker into pod:
- Orient the Bantam Overland 6.5 inch speaker mounting ring so that the larger of the three tabs is located at the top.
- Secure the speaker mounting ring to the pod using the factory hardware.
- Connect provided speaker harness adapter to speaker. The adapter has an 1/8th and 1/4 inch spade connector that will connect directly to your speaker.
- Connect the provided adapter to the factory wiring located inside of the speaker pod.
- Place the speaker assembly into the factory speaker pod.
- Align the speaker so that it matches with the pre-drilled holes in the mounting bracket.
- Using 4 of the provided black phillips head screws, install 6.5 inch speaker into Bantam Overland 6.5 inch speaker mounting ring.
Step 10
Installing the speaker pod back into the dash:
- Gently pull back on the dash and work speaker pod back into place. Be sure not to damage the front of the speaker.
- Align the speaker pod assembly with the two bolts that secure the right side of the pod. Replace the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts, being sure to leave them loose until all bolts are in place.
- Replace the 3/8th inch (or 10mm) bolt that secures the bottom of the speaker pod. You may need to adjust the pod in order to get the holes to line up.
- Once these three bolts are started, you can tighten all 3 being sure not to over tighten.
- Re-connect the factory speaker wire harness to the back of the speaker pod.
- Replace the two 9/32 inch (or 7mm) bolts holding in the lower dash to the lower dash support (For glovebox).
- Replace the 9/32 inch (or 7mm) screw from the bottom right corner of the dash that holds in the bottom of the dash.
- Replace the side panel located near the door opening.
- Replace the glove box by lining up the hinges, pivoting up, press in the sides inward pass the opening and close.
- Replace the door retention strap onto the holder. If you unplugged the harness for your door, be sure to reconnect it at this time!
Step 11
Removing the overhead sound bar:
Soft Top:
- Using a 3/8th inch (or 10mm) socket:
- Remove the two bolts to the outside of the soundbar, nearest the doors
- Remove two bolts to the inside of the soundbar, located towards the middle (In between the dome light and the speaker grille).
- Disconnect the factory speaker wiring from the passenger side of the sound bar. We recommend having 2 people for the removal of the soundbar.
Hard Top:
- Using a 3/8th inch (or 10mm) socket:
- Remove the two bolts to the outside of the soundbar, nearest the doors
- Remove two bolts to the inside of the soundbar, located towards the middle (In between the dome light and the speaker grille).
- Remove the two Freedom Top screw in bolts from the center of the sound bar, if applicable.
- Disconnect the factory speaker wiring from the passenger side of the sound bar. We recommend having 2 people for the removal of the soundbar.
- Place your sound bar on a work bench or table to prepare for next step.
Step 12
Removing the factory speakers from sound bar:
- Remove three T25 torx head screws from speaker grille.
- Remove grille and set to the side.
- Remove three T25 torx head screws from factory 6.5 inch speaker and disconnect wiring connector. Take note of the orientation of the speaker mounting holes.
- Remove two T25 torx head screws from factory tweeter and disconnect wiring connector.
Repeat same steps to remove factory speaker from other side of sound bar.
Step 13
Installing speakers into the sound bar:
6.5 inch speaker:
- Orient the Bantam Overland 6.5 inch speaker mounting ring so that the mounting holes line up with the holes in the sound bar.
- Secure the speaker mounting ring to the sound bar using the factory hardware.
- Connect provided speaker harness adapter to speaker. The adapter has an 1/8th and 1/4 inch spade connector that will connect directly to your speaker.
- Connect the provided adapter to the factory wiring located inside of the sound bar.
- Using 4 of the provided black phillips head screws, install 6.5 inch speaker into the Bantam Overland 6.5 inch speaker mounting ring.
1 inch tweeter:
- Connect the crossover; labeled sound bar, to the wiring on the tweeter. The connectors have a male and female end on both parts of the wiring harness. Line up the male and female from each side and push together, making sure that the rubber insulators are covering the connections.
- Connect the wiring adapter from the tweeter to the factory wiring inside of the sound bar.
- Mount the tweeter assembly to the sound bar and secure using the factory hardware.
Replace the speaker grille using the three T25 torx head screws.
Repeat Step 13 for the other side of the sound bar.
Step 14
Re-install the sound bar:
Soft Top:
- Using a 3/8th inch (or 10mm) socket:
- Replace the two bolts to the outside of the soundbar, nearest the doors
- Replace two bolts to the inside of the soundbar, located towards the middle (In between the dome light and the speaker grille).
- Re-connect the factory speaker wiring from the passenger side of the sound bar. We recommend having 2 people for the reinstallation of the soundbar.
Hard Top:
- Using a 3/8th inch (or 10mm) socket:
- Replace the two bolts to the outside of the soundbar, nearest the doors
- Replace two bolts to the inside of the soundbar, located towards the middle (In between the dome light and the speaker grille).
- Replace the two Freedom Top screw in bolts from the center of the sound bar, if applicable.
- Re-connect the factory speaker wiring from the passenger side of the sound bar. We recommend having 2 people for the reinstallation of the soundbar.
Step 15
Test out your new speaker bundle!
